Learning & Rest
We needed to learn, but I needed to rest.
When homeschooling, so many families feel the obligation to “teach” every single day of the week. Admittedly, I have felt the pressure over the years. Last week, I got sick. Not really sick, but sick enough that I didn’t want to do any teaching. So what did we do?
We watched both Swiss Family Robinson movies, the 1940’s and 1960s versions (black and white vs. color).
The children wrote a summary of each movie and then a comparison and contrast of the two. The final project: write about which version they liked the best and give several reasons as to why they liked it.
This project lasted over a three-day period.
It was healing.
It was learning.
It sparked interest in a time era that had been forgotten.
It got them asking about other movies and books they could do the same project with!
Learning and resting was what we as a family needed. We are so blessed to be able to learn at home. So I write this to encourage you in your own homeschooling experience. Not every day looks the same…we’re back with our regular schedule today, but we will definitely be learning and resting with our new projects in the future!
